By Essa Bah January 24, 2022

School Athletic Sports, widely call Inter House is back, after all school sports events were called off for over a year, thanks to coronavirus pandemic. Now after a ‘’boring year’’ for school students, light is found at the tunnel.

Mingdaw Junior and Senior Secondary School on Saturday the 22nd of January 2022 held their 17th school Inter House, at the Farato Main field. It was a colorful event attended by over a thousand of people.

Highlighting what this event means for pupils, Mr. Mankamang Mballow the vice principal of the school told the Progress, that the sports department are spotting new athletes that will represent the school.

“Mingdaw is one of the biggest schools in the country, having close to four thousand students, that alone is a big thing’’. He said, “we are hundred percent fit and we have our academic, they started their training very early and now they are very fit and can go for any competition’’.

Mr. Kalimang Camara a member of the sports department stressed how their last year’s activities were hampered by the coronavirus pandemic, he is however grateful for being able to have this day again.

He pointed out that they were hit hard last year by covid-19, which hampered the chances of some of their best athletes to participate in Inter School competition. Mamadou Sosseh Baldeh the captain of Mingdaw athletes was convinced that, they would make the school proud at the end of the inter school. He stressed that Mingdaw has one of the best athletes in the country.

Covid-19 was first discovered in Wuhan a city in China in 2019, since then it has killed over millions of people around the globe. In the Gambia it was first discovered on the 17th of March 2020, since then it has taken the lives of many Gambians and hampered so many activities, including school sports. But this year schools are allowed to hold sporting events. The question many are asking is, how long will that continue.
