Agriculture Amie Fabureh last week visited the National Federation of Gambian Women Office in Sukuta. The Minister was at the Federation Office to have firsthand information and explore ways of supporting the women.
Giving an overview of the Centre, Mary Dacosta, the Interim President of the Federation, highlighted some of their successes and challenges. She disclosed that the centre has a membership of over 500.000 comprising of women from various businesses. Madam Dacosta said among their challenges is the landlocked nature of the place which makes it difficult to use the place during the rainy season. She further mentioned water and electricity among the challenges at the Centre. In addition, the Centre has many facilities that are not in good shape, like the Conference Hall and the Groundnut-Oil machine among others.
She applauded the support of the FASDEP project under the Ministry of Agriculture for supporting the Centre.
Dacosta also called on the women groups and individuals members to renew their subscriptions. She informed that the Federation is looking forward to hold a General Assembly to elect a new leadership.
Fabureh assured the Women Federation her ministry’s readiness to continue supporting the Centre. She said together with her team at the ministry would continue knocking more doors for possible support for the Centre.
The minister was accompanied to the Centre by two of her deputy permanent secretaries, Fatou Jammeh-Touray and Bintou Gassama-Jammeh.
