An accident that happened recently at Pacharr in the Central River Region (CRR) left about ten people with injuries. Information reaching this medium has it that two of the victims of the accident are currently admitted at Brikama Ba Hospital, two others have been discharged while five have been referred to the Edward Francis Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul.
Bakary Mankajang, an eye witness, told this reporter that a car ran into a group of young people as they were celebrating a road carnival.
Mankajang said the accident happened because the driver was over speeding. He revealed that the driver reported himself at the Brikama Ba Police Station where he is currently detained and helping the police in their investigation.
Mamadi Bayo, younger brother of the village alkalo, also blamed the driver for the accident, adding that he has to face the full force of the law.
Ebrahim Cham, brother to one of the victims, lamented that his brother’s condition is serious. He opined that road shows ought to be stopped else they would cause more accidents. “If people want to organise such carnivals, they should look for a safer place and avoid marching on the highway. I urge the police to stop giving out permit to road carnivals, they should be condemned,” he said.
