Suspected saboteurs have been reportedly threatening the security of Samba Juma and Fatoto bridges in the Upper River Region (URR) of The Gambia but local and police authorities in the region have vowed to proportionately deal with anyone found culpable of the suspected sabotage. The governor of URR and the regional police commander have already visited the bridges to see on first-hand the magnitude of the suspected vandalism. Regional authorities believed that some elements have attempted to compromise the security of the bridges by loosening the knot balls that tighten them.
Regional police commissioner Nfamara Jallow said investigations were underway and that anyone found criminally liable will face the full force of the law. Samba Juma and Basse bridges were inaugurated in pomp and ceremony. The Gambia leader considered them as some of his “legacy projects”. Samba Juma Bridge connects Basse, Wuli, Sandu and Senegal while the Fatoto Bridge links one-horse URR settlements.
