The Gampetroleum depot in Mandinary has been militarized, with the government this week deploying the paramilitary and other security outfits to the depot. It has also deployed some staff of the Weights and Measures unit of the Ministry of Fiance and agents of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), revealed the Gambia government spokesperson Ebrima G. Sankareh.
This move formed part of the government’s efforts in ensuring the security and safety of the physical infrastructure of the depot, added Mr Sankareh. Meanwhile, sources said the oil marketing companies suspected of benefitting from the shady
business deals that led to the nationwide gasoline shortage have been documented, booked on charge, and being processed for any legal action.
The Gambia government said Sunday that the presidential task force constituted to investigate the acute nationwide gasoline shortage has unearthed fraud, massive procedural errors, dereliction of duty, recklessness, and lack of transparency at Gam petroleum depot.
